Macrophotography 08 2014 Syrphidae or hoverflies (or hoverflies), are a family of flies of the Brachycera suborder. The family is divided into 3 subfamilies which include about 200 genera and more than 5,000 described species. These flies often mimic the shapes and bright colors of certain species of Hymenoptera. They are often found in summer on flowers, mainly umbelliferae, seeking the nectar on which they feed and thus contributing to their pollination. The larvae feed on waste, flower bulbs, aphids or the larvae of other insects depending on the species. (Wikipedia)
